Khoobsurat, starring Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Afzal Khan,is Disney’s first film in India. The film is adapted from the Rekha and Rakesh Roshan starrer film with the same name (1980). The romcom revolves around Milli (Sonam Kapoor) and Vikram Rathore(Fawad Afzal Khan) who are poles apart from each other. One is quirky and loud and the other one is calm and composed. Director, Shashanka Ghosh very well knitted the modern fairy tail. After delivering Quick Gun Murugan and Mumbai Cutting, one cannot expect the such modern love story from Ghosh.
Milli, a Delhite and physiotherapist by profession is colorful and selfie obsessed. The girl enter’s in a royal palace, where she is supposed to help the head of the an erstwhile princely state, to recover from the bad incident, where she meets with the royal prince, Vikram Rathore, a man of few words and well rooted after doing some strange gigs in the family and annoying everyone , she discovers that she has fallen for Vikram. The essence of old Khoobsurat is well retained, a modern girl is on a mission to change the rules and regulations of the palace. From the beginning Milli knows that she is a mismatch for the family as she is too loud, jajjy and colorful, Delhi ki kudi and on the other hand, the palace belongs to sophisticated and classy people.
By the way, if you are planning to visit Rajasthan soon, then, this film can be tutorial for you,it has imbibed the Rajastheni culture, language and dress. Being a fanishista Sonam seamlessly caries the mix and match dresses, but when it comes to acting the actor falls short, but still she pulls off her character very well. The Pakistani heartthrob Fawad , Jindagi Guljar hai(Pakistani serial) fame, is sweet, elegant and majestic. He is the perfect match for the character(Vikram),. He stands out from the whole cast and wins the heart with his endearing personality
The other star cast includes Ratana Pathak, Kirron Kher and Aditi Rao Haidri. Aditi’s role is miss and blink as she dint have much to do butshe suits the character of royal princess Ratna plays the role of a strict royal mother, who is annoyed with Mili’s gig, her role is similar to her role in Jane Tu ya jane na, ironically in the previous version of the film the role of the male protagonist, strict mother was played by her Late mother Dina Pathak. Ratna is convincing yet edgy. Where as Kiron Khair is again showcasing her Punjabi mother attributes like she did in Dostana. She is pakki restless Punjabi mothers, who annoys her daughter, Milli by calling her again and again. The song Ma ka phone aye suits the character and the mood, it will remind you of the ma ka ladla bigad gya, but this one is more peppy. The other songs which are rocking the chartbusters are Abhi toh party baki hai and Engine ki sitti . The songs are chirping and foot stepping.
The movie is purely yes from my side, but don’t compare it with the original Khoobsurat and you will definitely godge on Fawad’s acting skills. This is the another film in Sonam’s kitty which will be huge hit at the box office after Ranjhna and Bhag Milkha singh Bhag.
