The Indian festivals have bid goodbye for the year, the last festival, Diwali, which ought to mark the beginning  of the new year has just passed. With the adieu to Indian festivals, the western festivals are ready to arrive.Before Christmas celebrations the another fate which  Christians celebrate at grand level is Halloween. The term Halloween  is used for an evening before the   All Hallows’ Day. A holy evening, an evening dedicated to  honor the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed believers.

The Halloween day is observed on the 31st October and 1stof November is considered  as the  All Hallows’ Day. The last day of the October  is also regarded as a commencement of Triduum of Allhallowtide, which means religious observance which last for three days. The All Hallow’s day coincides with the another festival called Samhain, which is celebrated on the onset of the winters and the end of the harvest season. Some intellectual believes that  All Hallows’ Eve is a Christianized feast which was primarily influence by  Celtic harvest festivals,started by villagers, especially  GaelicSamhain. There are many stories related to  Halloween, but none of them are proved true so far.

To cheer up the mood of the Haloween, people dress up like ghosts and ghouls or the respective  martyrs. The festivity  includes trick-or-treating, where children dressed up like a  ghost and go  from one home to another to get candies and money, the practice is similar  to eidi, where, the gift, money, sweets are given to the children’s children, on the day of Eid. People attend costume parties, decorate their houses and jack-o’-lanterns, where the carve the pumpkins or turnip. The top of the pumpkin is cut off to form a lid, and the inner part of the  pumpkin  is scooped out, the final image resembles with the face of a monster is carved out of the pumpkin rind to expose the hollow interior. The celebration also enrolls lighting bonfires,apple bobbing,where a huge pot is filled with water and putting apples in the water. Children then  try to catch one with their teeth, without using their arms.

The day is followed by visiting haunted houses, playing pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films. On the same day candles are laid on the graves of the dead. People visit a church, seek prayer and some people also fast to pay the tribute to dead people.The traditional food like  apples, colcannon, cider, potato pancakes, and soul cakes are consumed to enlighten the day.

Apart from hard core Halloween celebrations, which has the origin in the Christianity.People from different countries have started celebrating the day, and we Indians are no less than anyone. This time if you are also  thinking to attend the Halloween party,then you can experiment your looks by dressing like a pineapple, “Dexter Morgan (one of the serial killer) and children can dress up like “Captain Underpants”. You can experiment the blunt and scary look also.

The Halloween day is  one week far and our Hollywood actors have already started the celebrations. Some of the stars like Michelle Trachtenberg and Kelly Osbourne were recently seen enjoying the Halloween bash, the actors  were dressed up scarily.
